About our Staff The practice is supported by Community Health nurses, practice manager and two receptionists. About our Region Triabunna is located on the east coast of Tasmania, 88km north east of Hobart on the Tasman Highway. Tasmania's east coast provides a contrast- sunshine and sea life, wine and wildlife, crags and beaches, history and adventure. The place names go some way to telling the story of the regions heritage: Freycinet (French), Schouten and Maria (Dutch), Swansea (Welsh), Ben Lomond (Scottish), and Triabunna and Weilangta (Aboriginal).
Enjoy the national parks in the region Douglas-Apsley, with its quietly flowing rivers, eucalypts and Oyster Bay Pines; Freycinet, bushwalkers and sea kayakers paradise; and Maria Island, with its history, walks and fauna. The region provides fine food and wine and there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the areas fresh, natural produce.
Triabunna is a working port which started life as a garrison town for the penal colony on Maria island. Today it is a town driven largely by its fishing industry (it is known for its scallops and abalone) and the huge woodchip mill at Point Home. About our community Triabunna is a coastal town on the picturesque East Coast of Tasmania one (1) hours drive from the capital city of Hobart. The seaside town of Orford, which is a mere five minutes away, is renowned for its beautiful beaches and magnificent views across the bay to the Maria Island National Park.
Triabunna has a population of approximately 900 and Orford has a resident population of approximately 500 people, which escalates during the summer period when holiday makers flock to the area.
Triabunna has a District High School and there is also a primary school at Orford. The town has all major facilities, including a Service Tasmania shop with banking facilities, a chemist, a community and health centre, supermarket, hardware store, bakery, motel, hotel, tea rooms, takeaway shops and tradespeople. There is also a first class Child Care Centre located in Triabunna. About our regional environment The East Coast experiences a cool temperate maritime climate which is relatively mild by Tasmanian standards and the coastal views of the world-renowned Freycinet Peninsula and Maria Island have to be seen to be believed. About our lifestyle Sporting facilities available in Orford and Triabunna include a golf course, tennis courts, netball courts, bowling green, cricket and football grounds. The Glamorgan Spring Bay municipal area stretches from Buckland in the south to Bicheno in the north and has a population of 4,300. Industries include grazing, fishing, aquaculture, viticulture, olives, walnuts, tourism and forestry. The National Parks of Freycinet, Maria Island and the Douglas-Apsley provide wonderful opportunities to explore and enjoy Tasmania's unique reserves and wildlife.
In recent years a marina has been established in Triabunna and there is a proposal in place to further develop the marina area. Another multi-million dollar development is underway between Orford and Triabunna, with the first stage to include a Greg Norman designed golf course.
Living on the East Coast of Tasmania provides a wonderful lifestyle and enables residents to have the best of both worlds a tranquil, relaxing life in a picturesque rural area, within a short travelling distance of a capital city.
